One Key That Empowers Success in Your CareerBy
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” ~Harold Whitman
Have you ever asked yourself, ” Are you nuts? You don’t know anything about doing this.”
Good questions. I’ve asked myself these over the last couple of months as I’ve worked on putting this blog together.
I’ve enjoyed success in business, pastoring a church and investing over the last three decades. I could retire though when mentioning that word to my wife she said, “Then I’ll use the other ‘R’ word—’Remodel.’’’ We’ve been there. Don’t want to go back soon.
So why now start a blog? Business is good. I’m busy enough.
I’ve always lived with a passion for maximizing my life, accomplishing more. When pastoring, I also wrote articles on church growth and had a daily radio broadcast. That passion to write and share insights with others never left. But I put it on hold while building my current business.
Business is at a place where I have a little bit more time. So I researched writing again. I looked at magazines but none were publishing what I want to write on. My focus is outside the box. So I thought about writing a book. But book publishers require an agent. Agents want you currently writing for magazines. Same dead end.
Frustration set it. I was caught in a feedback loop that wouldn’t end. So I thought, “I’m giving up this dream. I don’t need it. I have a great business, lot’s of investments, we have it made. We’ll just cruise and enjoy life.”
But I couldn’t let it go. The passion to write and help others just kept nagging at me.
Somewhere in the search the idea of starting a blog popped up. I researched it–why people write blogs, how to write one, what to write about. And in the midst the passion flamed. Here was the answer. Writers writing outside the box of main stream print media. Following their passion. Writing about it to help others. Learning along with their audience.
This was it, the answer I was looking for. I could combine my passion of learning about success and financial growth, from a Christian as well as practical perspective, with my interest in writing. It all fit.
So I started down the journey. I’m excited about it. I look forward to each day. I’m learning about blogging but also about financial and personal success from a practical and spiritual perspective. I’m jazzed about the opportunity to explore outside the main stream and share it with others.
Are you excited or just going through the motions in your life? Are you living with passion or drudgery? Do you look forward to each day or think, “Oh no. Here we go again.”
Take some time and evaluate your life?
- What are you interested in?
- What are passionate about?
- What do look forward to getting up in morning for?
- What could you do that will make a difference in other’s lives?
- Can you start doing that now?
- Can you make a living doing it eventually?
- What education and skills do you need?
- What’s holding you back?
Hey, that’s enough to think about right now. We’ll be talking about those in the future. Ask God to guide you and He will. I’m amazed how He has led me into so many adventures. What’s He got ready for you?
“Remember the Lord in all you do, and he will give you success.” Proverbs 3:6 (New Century Version)
